The anecdote I will be using would be how throughout the years, every time I take the 168 to go downtown, I would see new buildings pop up in Griffintown. My investigative question will be to look at why there are so many of these condo buildings being built. The conventional wisdom I will be challenging would be that people should buy condos before buying a home.
This topic interests me because I have grown up in Montreal and I never really understood why so many condo buildings were being built in Griffintown. I am very curious about this and want to look more into it.
I hope to understand how and why this “hyperdensity” came to be. I want to where it all started and why are they are building so many condos.
After doing a little research, I found that an interesting bigger picture idea would be that, due to the fact that all these city planners are building all these hi-rises, there is a lack of architectural creativity.
I think this feature story will be more of an investigative article because I am trying to find the hidden truth behind the construction of all these buildings.
My intended audience will be young professionals in the mid to late twenties who have just gotten out of university and are in the market for a home.
I hope to bring awareness to this issue because I find that not a lot of people are aware of this problem in our city and that if we do not do anything about it, more communities will be hit with hyperdensity.
I think that this feature article could appear on real estate blogs that talk about the real estate market in Montreal, such as http://www.therestwillcome.com/
This feature article will be about hyperdensity in Griffintown, a neighbourhood located in the southwest region of Montreal. I want explore how, in this specific area, how there has been an alarming rate of condominiums and apartments being built and the effects it has in the community as many people living in this area are very unhappy with the hyperdensity route the real estate planners are taking. With the little bit of research I have done, I found that some people are being forced to sell the plot of land to real estate how are going to use it to build more condominium buildings. In addition, I want to hopefully be able to use statistics on demography so that I can get a better idea of the type of people that live in this neighborhood so I could also add them to my desired audience due to the fact that I want to spread awareness about the problem and I think including the community should know what is going on in their own backyard.
